Three Reasons To Book A Winter Princess Session ASAP | RI Children's Photographer

Just in case you didn’t notice, colder weather is here. The temperature has gotten cold seemingly all of a sudden, the leaves are dropping off the trees slowly but surely, and the amount of daylight is dwindling. As Game Of Thrones tells us, winter is coming.

For many, it may seem like the time for outdoor photo sessions is coming to an end. Honestly, though, winter (as well as late fall into early spring, before the leaves come out) are still great times to have a photo session done, especially a Special Edition Princess Session. As a RI children’s photographer, I can say without a doubt that winter princess sessions are magical, wonderful, and unique. The photos that come from them are so pretty and are something that will become family heirlooms.

Want to know a little bit more about what makes having a winter princess session pretty much the best thing ever, and why you should book one for your princess ASAP? Read below to find out more!

THE SNOW

Yes, it is true that there isn’t always snow in winter. Predicting it and scheduling a session around it can be a little bit of a challenge. But when it happens, it’s so rewarding. Photos in softly falling snow are gorgeous. I’ve never met a little girl who wasn’t excited to twirl in falling snow or stick her tongue out to catch falling snowflakes. Pretty wraps and muffs keep young ladies warm, and it’s honestly not as cold as you might think when it snows!

THE LIGHT

There is no light like winter light. As our orientation to the sun changes, so does the angle of light. Winter light is around much less but it’s gorgeous golden. Sometimes I like to think that maybe it’s nature’s way of apologizing for being so cold and bare. I took your leaves, I took your warmth, but have this light. I suppose that’s a decent compromise, and that beautiful light adds a wonderful warmth to those winter princess photos, unlike any light from warmer months.

THE SUN SETS EARLIER. WAY EARLIER.

Having a much earlier sunset isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Honestly, I don’t love that it happens most of the time. But that earlier sunset can be a bonus for winter photo sessions. Why, you ask? Well, often times, people want that lovely late-day golden light for their photo session (like I mentioned in the point above). That light occurs about an hour or two before sunset, depending on the location. In the summer, this can mean that if you’re dead set on that golden look, a session may be occurring at 7 or 8 pm. That’s close to, or even past, some princess’ bedtimes. In winter, though, those pre-sunset hours become much earlier, sometimes as early as 2 in the afternoon. This makes it a lot easier for parents and kids who prefer to not stay up so late for their photo session.
